Condoms During Prom

Everyone knows what's going on, and, even though there are a fabulous few students who chose to abstain from it, there are still so many more who chose to have sex.

There are many schools who CHOOSE lack in sexual education. They believe that avoiding such a topic, or even simply telling their students to simply abstain from sex will solve the problem. Too bad that we live in the real world right?

In the real world it seems like every third person you know is having sex. We’re saying that anyone is per miscues or sleeping with a thousand people (which seems to be the abstinence campaign’s view of those who have sex) we’re just saying that we can’t believe that adults chose to ignore what’s going on right under their nose… Of course if it’s your very moralistic parents, that might be a good thing! Lol!

Those who chose to have sex may be coy to buying their own condoms, ashamed to buy the Plan B pill, or feel they don’t have the money to spend on the condoms they need or to even get the Plan B pill the next day (which, lets face it, at as high as $50 a box isn’t exactly something a teenager can get on their own.)

It’s important to understand that there are teens who WANT to be safe, but can’t always get a hold of what they need. Considering the fact that they are already shelling out anywhere from $100 to $1,500 for prom, we could do them the small favor of paying for their protection.

This may seem like a big change, but there are already schools who have leaped ahead of us and are handing out condoms at prom. Some have even gone as far as offering condoms in the nurse’s office during regular school hours, and even having condom dispensers in their bathrooms. When compared to a year round condom hand out, one night of giving our students the protection they need doesn’t sound so bad anymore now does it?

I know it may be ridiculous to ask this of our schools on such short notice, but even if they do not hand them out at least this will put the thought in their heads!

  1. The day this becomes common practice in the US, I'll throw a party. Unfortunately, sex ed policies in US schools has a lot more to do with politics and conservative religious values than it does with science or the actual needs of young people. We need a permanent revolution in sex ed in this country.
